Book of Evidence served on six accused of Hutch murder conspiracy

Summary

Six men were brought before the Special Criminal Court on charges of conspiring to murder Patrick "Patsy" Hutch. The court served each defendant with books of evidence and remanded them in custody for a further hearing on 9 March. The defendants – Michael Burns (43), Ciaran O'Driscoll (24), Patrick Curtis (38), Stephen Curtis (32), Mohammed Smew (27) and Mark Capper (21) – were charged with conspiring to commit the murder of Hutch between 1 February and 10 March 2018, and also with facilitating the commission of a serious offence by a criminal organisation. Additional charges included conspiracy to murder an unknown person on the same dates, and for Burns, possession of a firearm silencer and five rounds of 9 mm ammunition. The prosecution, represented by State solicitor Ciara Vibien, stated that disclosure to the defence was at an advanced stage. Each defendant appeared in court either alone or in groups, with Capper appearing alone again later.
