Teen who spat blood in a garda's face and mouth sentenced to three months in prison

Summary

In a case heard at Swords District Court, 19‑year‑old Alla Ahmad was sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting Sergeant Anthony McNulty at Swords Garda Station. Ahmad, who was intoxicated and had a cut lip from an earlier altercation at Airside Retail Park, spat blood from the cut into McNulty's face and mouth. McNulty was forced to take a course of HIV anti‑viral tablets and was unable to work. Ahmad pleaded guilty to intoxication, threatening and abusive behaviour at the retail park and to assaulting the sergeant. The judge also fined him €200 for public order offences and imposed recognisance pending appeal. Ahmad, a full‑time mechanical engineering student who has applied to join the Irish Defence Forces, offered a face‑to‑face apology to McNulty. The judge warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated.
