Summary
In 2018, 53‑year‑old Ian Kidd settled a High Court case with the Catholic Church over clerical child sex abuse. In July 2017 he received a €30,000 "final offer" from the church's solicitors, which he deemed derisory. In response, Kidd poured a small amount of diesel onto the floor of St Agnes' Church in Crumlin, damaging the Carrara marble altar, a monstrance, a crucifix and a Paschal candle. He shouted at parishioners to leave and threatened to ignite the fuel, though he did not. The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court found him guilty of one count of criminal damage.
