Summary
A Waterford resident, Zilvinas Antanovas, aged 27, was heard in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after biting two Gardaí who were attempting to arrest him for drug offences. Antanovas pleaded guilty to possession of heroin on Exchange Street Lower, Dublin, on 18 January 2014, to assaulting two Gardaí, and to possession of the synthetic drug M‑CAT. He claimed he had been lured to Ireland by Eastern European gangsters who seized his passport and forced him into drug dealing. Garda Gerard Reddy described the incident, noting that Antanovas threw away a plastic bag containing €300 worth of M‑CAT, resisted arrest violently, and required pepper spray to subdue him. The judge remanded him in custody until December, when a final sentence will be imposed. The State is considering an application to deport Antanovas.
