Restaurant robber fell down stairs in struggle with staff

Summary

In February 2019, Dillon Brophy, aged 22, entered Rose Garden Chinese Restaurant on South Circular Road with a large serrated knife and demanded cash from staff closing for the night. When the staff refused, Brophy threatened the man with the knife, holding it to the back of his neck. A struggle ensued, causing both men to fall down the stairs. Staff restrained Brophy until Gardaí arrived. He pleaded guilty to robbery at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced to 27 months' imprisonment. The judge noted the seriousness of the knife and Brophy's intent to rob, while acknowledging his history of 41 convictions and his potential for reform. A victim impact report recorded a small thumb injury.
