Summary

A 16‑year‑old boy pleaded guilty to attempting to murder 25‑year‑old Stephanie Ng on 23 December 2017 at Sea Front, Queen's Road, Dun Laoghaire. He met Ng on the Whisper app, where he pretended to be 19, and tried to kill her during their first face‑to‑face meeting. He grabbed her from behind, choked her to unconsciousness and then slashed her neck with a knife bought at Lidl. Gardai found a book of drawings in his bedroom, including a sketch of a person being cut up and the words 'serial killer'. The boy had unsupervised access to extreme pornography from age 11 or 12, had used Tor browsers, and had been on antidepressants since October 2015. A forensic psychiatrist reported that the boy had violent thoughts since 2015, had been bullied, and had a history of violent drawings and a scuffle with another boy.
