Teen robber gets five years

Summary

Jamie McBride, a 19‑year‑old father of two from Melrose Lawn, Clonadkin, Dublin, pleaded guilty in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbery and three attempted robberies committed between 26 February and 1 April 2018. He was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, with the final 12 months suspended on strict conditions. The court heard that on 26 February he confronted a woman leaving a train station, brandishing a weapon and demanding her handbag, then withdrew €596 from her account using a bank card; the money was later reimbursed. On 30 March he tried to snatch a bag from another woman, striking her up to 15 times with a stick‑like object and causing hand injuries. The next day he threatened a KFC cashier with a knife and tried to steal money from the register, but failed. He also entered a Ladbrokes bookmaker holding a firearm‑like object and presented a bag to the cashier, who fled.
