Summary

Damien Gray, 35, was found asleep beside a playground in Hermitage Park, Lucan, when Gardaí received a call. Officers discovered him with a Kleenex packet containing €5,700 worth of heroin in individual street deals and later found a quantity of crack cocaine. Gray, of Shancastle Close, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 31 May 2017 to possession of heroin and cocaine for sale or supply. He admitted acquiring the drugs three or four days earlier, selling them to pay debts, and that he had been smoking heroin for two weeks. He claimed someone else had wrapped the drugs into individual deals. Garda Ronan Culligan informed the prosecution that Gray was arrested and questioned. The drugs were analysed, confirming the heroin's street value of €5,700 and the crack cocaine's estimated value of €300. Gray's home was broken into after his arrest, and he was attacked with a machete, leaving him with scarring.
