Summary

Eileen Ryan, 26, was found guilty of driving with unrestrained children, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and refusing a blood test. On 25 March 2018 she drove a car with a pregnant woman and two children aged two and five, without seat belts, at speeds over 120 km/h, breaking red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road. Garda Michael Brisbane chased the vehicle, which threw glass bottles at the patrol car and swerved. Ryan was abusive, smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. She had four prior District Court convictions. She is currently an outpatient at a psychiatric facility, on medication for depression, and the case is adjourned for sentencing in October pending a probation report. The court will hear the sentencing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
