Kenyan woman unfit to stand trial for Foxrock murder is committed

Summary

A 50‑year‑old Kenyan woman, Grace Miano, was committed to the Central Mental Hospital after a Central Criminal Court judge ruled she was unfit to stand trial for the murder of 27‑year‑old Malawian national Limbani "Robert" Mzoma on 1 November 2018. Miano, who lives at Tudor Lawns in Foxrock, claimed she had been poisoned at the time of the alleged offence and that she was not responsible because she had consumed a cigarette containing intoxicants. She denied having a major mental illness, although she occasionally suffered panic attacks. A forensic psychiatrist, Dr Ronan Mullaney, examined her and concluded she had schizo‑affective disorder, was receiving antipsychotic injections, and still held entrenched religious and persecutory delusions. Under the Criminal Law Insanity Act, the judge ordered her unfit to be tried, adjourned proceedings, and committed her to the CMH, where she has remained an inpatient since November 2018.
