A 21‑year‑old Dublin man, who was himself raped as a teenager, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two counts of sexually assaulting his five‑year‑old niece between April and November 2011. The man, who was 13 when he was raped by an older man and forced to engage in sexual acts with his brother while in care, had previously been jailed for life for a separate case of "exceptional depravity"; that sentence was later reduced by the Court of Criminal Appeal.
