Dublin man smashed victim in face with glass leaving him with permanent scars in unprovoked attack

Summary

Ciaran Gilford, aged 27, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment for assault causing serious harm after striking Stephen Doyle, 42, with a glass at the Wright Venue in Swords on 1 December 2012. Doyle suffered post‑traumatic stress disorder, permanent scarring and numbness in his left jaw. The court noted that Gilford's attack was unprovoked and followed an alleged argument over pints. Judge Mary Ellen Ring suspended the final 18 months of the sentence because of Gilford's guilty plea and cooperation with gardaí.
