Man (21) with 105 previous convictions had stolen mobile

Summary

Luke Foran, aged 21, will be sentenced for possession of a stolen mobile phone. The phone had been snatched from a woman who was injured when a man tried to retrieve it from a car. Foran was found in possession of the phone when Gardaí responded to a report of a car driving dangerously on East Wall Road. He was 17 at the time of the incident and was not charged in relation to the initial theft. Foran pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the phone on 2 November 2015. He has 105 prior convictions, including 19 thefts, 17 burglaries, five for handling stolen property and one for possession of stolen property, and is currently serving a five‑year sentence for criminal damage. Judge Elma Sheahan ordered a probation report before finalising sentencing on 21 October 2021. The woman confirmed the phone was hers.
