Brutal, serial sex attacker Gierlowski guilty of attempted rape
Summary
Slawomir Gierlowski, a 34‑year‑old Polish roofer, was found guilty of sexual assault, attempted rape and assault causing harm for an attack that took place on 18 December 2010. The victim was walking home from a night out when Gierlowski followed her into a courtyard, pushed her to the ground, punched her, choked her, touched her genitals, attempted to rape her but was not erect, and ejaculated on her skirt. DNA from the victim's skirt matched a profile taken from Gierlowski in 2016, linking him to the 2010 incident and to earlier assaults in Clondalkin. A jury of three women and nine men returned unanimous guilty verdicts after just under three hours of deliberation. Gierlowski was remanded in custody pending a sentence hearing on 23 July. The trial also addressed a request to remove his name from the internet, which the judge denied. The case was heard in the Central Criminal Court. Slawomir Gierlowski pleaded not guilty.
