UK psychiatrist to prepare report on boy who tried to murder woman

Summary

The Central Criminal Court has allowed the sentencing of a 16‑year‑old who attempted to murder a 25‑year‑old woman named Stephanie Ng on 23 December 2017 at Sea Front, Queen's Road, Dun Laoghaire. The boy, who met Ng on the Whisper app and pretended to be 19, tried to kill her during their first face‑to‑face meeting by choking her and slashing her neck with a knife. He pleaded guilty to the attempt. The court had previously ordered a forensic psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist to prepare reports on the boy to assess future risk. After a delay, a UK psychiatrist, Dr Richard Church, was sourced and agreed to produce the report, with access to the boy's Central Mental Hospital records. The judge adjourned the case to 20 June to monitor progress and remanded the boy in custody until then.
