Ana Kriegel suffered "a very horrific death", pathologist tells trial
Summary
Professor Marie Cassidy, the former State Pathologist, testified at the trial of two 14‑year‑old boys accused of murdering 14‑year‑old Anastasia Kriegel. She described the death as "a very horrific death", caused by blunt force trauma to the head or compression of the neck. Cassidy noted more than 50 injury sites, some possibly defensive wounds, and highlighted four separate impacts to the right side of the head consistent with a small, heavy object or the corner of something larger. Other facial injuries suggested blows from a large, long, heavy object. She found no alcohol or drugs in Ana's system and stated she was "extremely healthy" before her death. Cassidy also reported evidence of attempted vaginal penetration, but could not determine consent. She observed injuries near the door where Ana was found and noted blood staining on the wall and floor. The unnamed 14-year-old pleaded not guilty.
