Summary

Rasvan Stefanescu, 33, of Richmond Avenue, Fairview, Dublin, was jailed for two years after assaulting a man with a hammer, breaking the victim's arm. The incident occurred after a party at his then partner's house. The next day Stefanescu met the victim by chance, threatened him, and followed him to a car park where he struck the victim's back and attempted a head blow. The victim defended himself, but the hammer hit his arm, fracturing a forearm bone. The victim was out of work for two months and suffered a substantial loss of income, though he fully recovered from his injuries. Stefanescu pleaded guilty to assault causing harm on 14 July 2014. Judge Melanie Greally suspended the final 18 months of a three‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence, ordered a €3,100 compensation payment, and noted that Stefanescu had no prior violent convictions, was in stable employment, and had adopted a responsible fatherhood attitude.
