Michael Gill, a 57‑year‑old taxi driver from Hillcrest Park, Glasnevin, was found to owe €636,447 in undeclared income tax and penalties after a routine profiling by Revenue. He had previously declared €163,649 from a home maintenance business (2003‑2008) but failed to disclose additional income from a coal delivery business, which increased the total to €636,447. Gill had not informed his tax consultant about two bank accounts where he deposited customer cheques from the coal business. He pleaded guilty to delivering incorrect tax returns between 31 December 2003 and 2007. Judge Mary Ellen Ring, instead of a two‑year prison term, ordered Gill to carry out 220 hours of community service. He has paid over €565,358 to date and is unable to pay the remaining €71,689. Gill has no prior convictions and is now tax compliant with a Tax Clearance Certificate.
