"Mary Lowry had his head melted": Moonlight trial hears of garda note
Summary
During a trial at the Central Criminal Court, Chief Superintendent Dominic Hayes testified that a garda involved in the investigation of Bobby Ryan's disappearance had made a note in his notebook stating, "Mary Lowry had his head melted." Hayes could not recall who made the remark. Ryan, a 52‑year‑old part‑time DJ known as Mr Moonlight, vanished on 3 June 2011 after leaving his girlfriend Mary Lowry's house at 6:30 am. His body was discovered 22 months later in April 2013 in a run‑off tank on a farm owned by Lowry and leased by Patrick Quirke, a 50‑year‑old man from Breanshamore, Tipperary. The prosecution alleges Quirke murdered Ryan to rekindle an affair with Lowry, but Quirke has pleaded not guilty.
