Man in process of downloading child porn when gardai raided home
Summary
Mark McNally, 27, of Seacourt, Clontarf, Dublin, was found by Gardaí to be downloading child pornography when they raided his home on 25 February 2014. Garda Donal Bolger obtained a warrant and, during the search, discovered McNally's laptop on a bed with 35 images and 32 videos, mainly of pre‑teen boys and girls in sexual activity. McNally admitted he had been downloading such material since age 13 and had done so between 2010 and 2014, when he was aged 19 to 23. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of child pornography. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a three‑year imprisonment sentence, fully suspended on the condition that McNally keep the peace, be of good behaviour for three years and follow Probation Service directions for two years. He has no prior convictions and had not attracted Garda attention before this incident.
