Summary

Aaron Nolan, 21, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for assaulting his then‑girlfriend, 19, on 5 November 2017. The court heard that Nolan punched, kicked and dragged her over a green area and down a laneway, pulling clumps of hair and causing her to vomit all night. He also burst her eardrum and inflicted severe facial injuries, including a swollen face, blood‑matted hair, a burst nose and lip. Nolan pleaded guilty to two assault charges and had no prior convictions. Judge Melanie Greally suspended the final 18 months of the sentence on strict conditions: two years of Probation Service supervision, no contact with the victim, and attendance at a domestic‑violence programme if suitable. The victim suffered post‑traumatic stress disorder, depression, neck pain and hearing loss, and she now speaks less and feels trapped by the memory of the attack.
