Man "shocked" to learn cannabis he moved was worth €1.6m
Summary
Gregory Kelleher, 44, of Clondalkin, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of €1,675,000 worth of cannabis with intent to sell or supply. The drugs were found in a white van at the car park of Bottom of the Hill public house, Finglas, on 23 June 2015. Customs officials, acting on confidential information, had discovered a pallet of 83.7 kg of cannabis at a Finglas shipping company on 22 June 2015, which had been misdeclared as second‑hand clothes. Kelleher drove the van to the shipping company, loaded the drugs, and later abandoned the vehicle in Poppintree where Gardaí seized it. His fingerprints were found on a plastic bag containing duck tape, a knife, gloves and bin bags. He had eleven prior convictions, including criminal damage and intoxication in public. Judge Patricia Ryan sentenced him to six years' imprisonment, back‑dating the term to 26 February 2015, the day he first entered custody.
