"Mr Moonlight" suffered injuries from accident, traffic collision or serious assault, pathologist noted
Summary
Bobby 'Mr Moonlight' Ryan, a part‑time DJ, was found dead in a disused waste water tank on a farm in Fawnagown, Tipperary, in April 2013 after he had gone missing in June 2011. A post‑mortem by former Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jaber, conducted shortly after the body was discovered, identified multiple injuries that could have resulted from an accident, traffic collision or serious assault. Dr Jaber was not available to testify at the Central Criminal Court trial of Patrick Quirke, who is charged with Ryan's murder. Superintendent Patrick O'Callaghan, present at the post‑mortem, noted that the body was removed from the tank without a pathologist on site, and that the deceased's arm had detached at some point before or during removal. The trial continues with Quirke pleading not guilty. The prosecution alleges Quirke killed Ryan to rekindle an affair with the farm's owner, Mary Lowry.
