Summary
James Jordan, 51, of Castleknock, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to knowingly submitting 16 incorrect VAT returns, six incorrect income tax returns, four incorrect invoices and three false claims of income tax relief. Judge Sinéad Ní Chúlacháin sentenced him to 240 hours of community service in lieu of 18 months imprisonment for one count of submitting an incorrect tax return. He received an 18‑month imprisonment sentence for one count of submitting an incorrect invoice, but the entire sentence was suspended for three years on the condition that he keep the peace, be of good behaviour and comply with an arrangement with Revenue. The arrangement requires Jordan to pay about €5,000 a month for 113 months; he has already paid €57,500. The court noted that Jordan owed €1,236,881 in total, including €162,945 VAT liability, €297,974 capital gains tax, and €775,962 interest and penalties.
