Summary
Gerard O'Neill, 66, was arrested in March 2018 after 225 child‑pornography videos were found on a laptop, hard drive and two CDs seized from his Dublin home. The items were searched in May 2015 following reliable information. O'Neill pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing and distributing child‑pornography videos between 15 April and 13 May 2015. Of the videos, 214 showed pre‑teen boys with other pre‑teen boys or adults, and 11 showed pre‑teen boys with exposed genitalia. A chat conversation in which a video was shared was also recovered. O'Neill's home was attacked by a large group when his criminal behaviour became public, and he later sold the property at a significant loss. He is now living in hostel accommodation. Judge Melanie Greally remanded him on continuing bail and adjourned sentencing to 1 May 2019, with a probation report ordered for the next date.
