Diesel poured in church caused €100k in damage

Summary

Ian Kidd, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage after pouring diesel inside St Agnes' Church in Crumlin on 26 July 2017. The diesel was spilled on the altar, a Carrara marble surface, and damaged a monstrance, a crucifix and a Paschal candle that belonged to Father Paul Tyrell. The damage is estimated at €100,000. Kidd appeared before the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where Judge Melanie Greally adjourned sentencing to 12 April and ordered a victim impact statement for that date.
