Gardai intercepted man as he went to move stolen car

Summary

A 25‑year‑old Dublin man, John Keogh, was arrested while attempting to move a stolen Ford Mondeo. Keogh claimed he had been asked to collect the vehicle as a favour for third parties and that he had received the key earlier that day from "some fellas." He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of a stolen vehicle at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Clondalkin on 24 March 2017. The car had been reported stolen from Laytown, Co. Meath, ten days earlier and was found parked outside the hotel with false number plates. Gardaí had set up surveillance after receiving confidential information about its location. Keogh tried to discard the key when approached by Gardaí and was arrested after a brief struggle. He admitted the facts during the interview. The judge, after considering his 29 previous minor convictions and his family background, imposed a three‑year suspended sentence.
