Charge Or Pretrial
Summary
Patrick Quirke writes a letter to a woman named Patricia, confessing that he has made a mess of his life and needs help moving forward. He explains that four years ago his best friend, who was also his wife's cousin, died, leaving a wife and young children. Quirke says he tried to support the friend's family and became involved in the friend's business, which led to an affair with the friend's wife. He claims the affair lasted three years and ended abruptly when he discovered she was seeing someone else. Quirke says she told him she had fallen out of love and was waiting for an opportunity to end "us." He says she has moved on, introduced a new lover to the family, and that he is left broken‑hearted and angry. He says he has been diagnosed with depression and that his wife is supportive but he is not in love with her.
