Three-year jail sentence for violent offender who attacked and choked ex-partner

Summary

Daniel Wildes, aged 32, was found guilty of assault causing harm after attacking Natasha Cummins on 1 April 2018. He threatened to shave her head, kicked down a bathroom door, and choked her while she was locked in the bathroom. A jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict for assault causing harm and not guilty verdicts for threats to kill and false imprisonment. Judge Patricia Ryan sentenced Wildes to four years' imprisonment, suspending the final year on the condition that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour for three years post‑release. The suspended year was also conditioned on Wildes staying away from Ms Cummins, her property and place of employment for 30 years, and on him not contacting her or having anyone contact her on his behalf. The sentence was back‑dated to 12 April 2018, when Wildes entered custody.
