Summary

A jury has begun deliberations in the trial of Garda Warren Farrell, 35, charged with dangerous driving causing the death of 75‑year‑old Elizabeth Core. Farrell, a patrol officer in Clondalkin, was driving a marked Garda car responding to a panic button call at a Topaz garage when it struck Core on Fonthill Road South on 28 August 2014. He pleaded not guilty. Judge Cormac Quinn told the jury they could convict on either dangerous driving causing death or careless driving causing death and that a unanimous verdict was required.
