Inmate tried to slice prison officer's wrist with shiv
Summary
In a hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Alan Ellis, 26, pleaded guilty to threatening to kill a prison officer and producing a blade during a dispute at Mountjoy Prison on 28 June 2016. Ellis used a blade moulded into a toothbrush handle to strike the officer's wrist while the officer was delivering toilet paper. Ellis admitted he intended to slice the officer's wrist, saying "Fuck you, I'll chop you up," and later expressed guilt. The officer's victim impact statement described the assault as unnerving and left him shaken. Ellis has 35 prior convictions, including assault on a peace officer, false imprisonment, burglary, theft, trespass and possession of knives.
