Witness tells trial she believes deceased was responsible for collision
Summary
An eye‑witness, Jean Fitzgerald, testified at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that she believes the deceased, Michael Jones, was at fault for the fatal collision that killed Hong Qing Qu. Fitzgerald said she does not think Jones was guilty of dangerous driving and that Qu caused the accident. She had given two statements to Gardaí: the first, made three days after the crash, blamed Jones, but the second, given on Monday, blamed Qu. She claimed the Garda had altered her words, possibly to favour the defendant. Fitzgerald also recounted that she had climbed into Qu's car, held his head, and that he was unconscious. She explained that she signed the original statement under distress, citing PTSD and the traumatic experience of seeing Qu die in her arms. The trial continues with Judge Patricia Ryan and a jury.
