Serial sex offender Nevin jailed for 5.5 years for Tinder attack
Summary
Patrick Nevin, 37, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for sexually assaulting a Brazilian student he met on Tinder in July 2014. The victim, a language student, had been repeatedly asked by Nevin to meet and send photos, and after a series of text exchanges she agreed to meet for coffee. Nevin drove her to a secluded spot on the UCD campus, where he forced her to kiss her, punched her on the back of her head, and left her distressed. The court found him guilty of assaulting the student on UCD campus on 23 July 2014. Nevin denied the charge. Judge Cormac Quinn noted the victim's lack of English and the use of force, and imposed a post‑release supervision period of two years, prohibiting Nevin from using the internet to contact unknown persons.
