Summary

Patricia Donoghue, 61, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to forging a driver's licence to open an AIB account in 2007 and to taking out loans under a false name to buy cars in 2009 and 2011. She used the forged licence in the name of Anne Marie Kearney, a real person who had left Ireland in the early 1980s, and also attempted to insure a car in the name of Leon Rossiter with another fake licence. Donoghue paid off the €8,250 loan in full and was making payments on the €15,000 loan when arrested. She was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years on the condition of good behaviour. The court noted her early plea, cooperation, good character, poor health and the seriousness of the offence as mitigating and aggravating factors respectively.
