Summary
A 26-year-old man from Walkinstown, Dublin has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for stabbing another man in the neck during a prearranged fight. Mohammed Adan Ali pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm at Mountjoy Square on 22 June 2017. The court heard that Ali contacted the injured party, a Somalian acquaintance, demanding money and subsequently arranged to meet him for a fight. During the confrontation, Ali produced a knife from his jeans and inflicted a neck wound on the victim. In mitigation, the court acknowledged Ali's traumatic background, including witnessing his father's murder in childhood, and his efforts to address alcohol-related issues.
