Man charged with possession of explosives at Finnstown House to stand trial in 2016

A 55‑year‑old man named Samuel Devlin, originally from Northern Ireland but residing in Dublin, was charged in May 2014 with unlawful possession of the explosive substance Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) at Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan, Co. Dublin. He was also charged with membership of the unlawful organisation Oglaigh na hEireann, the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Devlin was arrested by the Special Detective Unit and charged before the Special Criminal Court. On 7 October 2014, the court was told that Devlin had been served with a book of evidence and was seeking a trial date. The presiding judge, Ms Deirdre Murphy, fixed the trial for 2 February 2016, expected to last four weeks. She instructed Devlin that if he intended to rely on an alibi he must notify the prosecution within 14 days and provide relevant names and addresses, and that he may not call witnesses without court leave and 21 days' notice.
