Summary

Ross Thompson, 19, was jailed for 16 months after deliberately driving a Toyota Yaris at a Garda patrol car three times during a high‑speed chase. Thompson, who had no valid licence or insurance, repeatedly drove over the median strip, broke red lights, entered residential green areas and drove on the wrong side of the road. He performed numerous hand‑brake turns and, in three instances, positioned the vehicle to face the patrol car head‑on before driving straight at the officers. He pleaded guilty to two charges of endangerment and one of dangerous driving. Garda Robert English noted that Thompson's driving frightened other road users and that no one was injured or damaged. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Thompson to 16 months in prison, consecutive to his current term, and disqualified him from driving for six years. Thompson is due for release in December 2019.
