Serial child porn offender exposed himself to school children
Summary
Barry Watters, a 42-year-old man formerly of Infirmary Road, Dublin, and originally from Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two counts of indecency in December 2014 and possession of child pornography on October 20, 2016. The court heard that Watters exposed himself to children on their way to school in 2014, an incident that led to his arrest. In 2016, gardaí observed him viewing illegal images at an internet cafe on Middle Abbey Street; a USB key recovered from him contained 23 illegal images of child pornography and 422 images of children in various states of undress. Watters has six previous convictions, including a four-year sentence in 2012 for possession of child pornography, with the final year suspended. He also received a three-year sentence in 2010 and a two-year suspended sentence in 2009 for similar offences. Judge Martina Baxter remanded Watters in custody and ordered a psychologist's report to address community protection concerns. The matter was adjourned to December 3rd for the finalisation of his sentence, with a plea in mitigation to be concluded in the same month.
