CCTV recording of north inner city "extensive and pervasive", lawyers tell Hutch trial
Summary
In a Special Criminal Court hearing on 10 July 2018, lawyers for 32‑year‑old Jonathan Keogh argued that the extensive CCTV footage of Dublin's north inner city infringed his privacy rights. Sean Guerin SC contended that the footage, covering private interactions in a public area, was obtained without qualification and breached the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the Data Protection Act. Prosecutor Paul Burns SC countered that no constitutional privacy right was violated and that the evidence was necessary to prosecute the alleged murder of Gareth Hutch. The court was to decide the admissibility of the footage. The case involved Keogh, Thomas Fox, Regina Keogh and another accused, all pleading not guilty to Hutch's murder, which the prosecution described as pre‑meditated and brutal. The trial was scheduled to continue the following day.
