Summary

In a sentence hearing on 2 July 2018, Mr Justice Michael White praised a 28‑year‑old man and a young woman for preventing the death of their 17‑year‑old friend who was stabbed at the Hellfire Club on 27 June 2016. The teenager had been attacked by Michael Corbett, who had a knife and was described as "in the throws of a psychotic episode". Corbett had attempted to murder the teen, stabbing him in the chest and cutting his throat three times before the teen managed to push him away. The teen was later stabbed again in the chest, the knife breaking and a log being used to strike him. The two other teenagers intervened, one of whom was also assaulted. The judge highlighted the courage of the friends in stopping the attack and noted that the teen had survived with serious injuries. Corbett pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was remanded in custody until 16 July.
