Hutch murder accused was found unresponsive in cell, trial hears
Summary
The Special Criminal Court heard evidence in the fifth week of the trial of Thomas Fox, Regina Keogh, and Jonathan Keogh, who are accused of murdering Gareth Hutch. All three defendants have pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Fox, 31, also denies unlawfully possessing a Makarov 9mm handgun. The prosecution alleges the killing was premeditated, with Fox and Keogh instrumental in planning it, while Jonathan Keogh and another man were the shooters. Evidence presented included testimony that Fox was found unresponsive in his cell at Mountjoy Garda Station on May 28, 2016, with a ligature around his neck. He was treated at Mater Hospital and discharged later that day. Regina Keogh, 41, denied involvement in the murder during interviews, stating she had no part in it and did not believe her brother was a shooter. She also denied providing rubber gloves to a key prosecution witness, Mary McDonnell, who has been granted immunity. The court heard that the Hutch family was feared by the accused. The trial continues before Mr Justice Tony Hunt, sitting with Judges Patricia Ryan and Michael Walsh.
