Summary
In June 2018 a bench warrant was issued for a 67‑year‑old Dublin man who had previously been identified by Gardaí as a risk to the public due to a predilection for juveniles. Judge Martin Nolan in 2015 had ordered that the man could not be identified and imposed a five‑year Sex Offenders Act order restricting contact with children and loitering near them. In 2017 Judge Patricia Ryan found the man had breached this order by attempting to communicate with children while intoxicated, with his hand on his crotch and his zipper undone. She imposed an 18‑month sentence, back‑dated to the offence, and suspended the balance on the condition that he comply with Probation Service directions and remain abstinent from non‑prescription intoxicants. The man failed to attend a subsequent court appearance, prompting the bench warrant. The unnamed 67-year-old was convicted.
