Convicted rapist falsely imprisoned female shop worker during robbery

Summary

Gerard Creighton, aged 50, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for false imprisonment and robbery. He held a female shop worker at the Healthy Hut on Bolton Street for a few minutes before stealing €285 from the till. Two days earlier, he forced another female worker back into a shop she was closing, armed with a knife, and robbed €150. Creighton pleaded guilty to one count of false imprisonment and one count of robbery at the Healthy Hut, and to one count of robbery at the Old World New shop on Leinster Street. He has 22 prior convictions, including a nine‑year sentence in 1999 for rape and false imprisonment, and a three‑year sentence in 2015 for attempted robbery of a bookmaker. The judge noted his desire to reform and suspended the final two years of the sentence on conditions.
