Alleged abuse victim gave "true and credible account", prosecution tell jury
Summary
A wheelchair‑bound woman, aged 23, told a jury that a 44‑year‑old man, her stepfather, sexually abused her from age eight to 18. She said the abuse began with touching her private parts after her First Holy Communion, progressed to attempted vaginal rape, and then to regular anal rape from age 10 or 11. The alleged victim claimed the abuse occurred at their family home in Dublin, where her mother and other relatives lived. She said she had called the accused her father and that he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The prosecution argued she gave a true and credible account, while the defence questioned the reliability of her testimony and urged acquittal. The case is before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
