Man raped and sexually abused boy after "working his way" into family home

Summary

A 31‑year‑old man was sentenced to nine years' imprisonment, with the final three years suspended, for raping and sexually abusing an 18‑year‑old boy who was 11 at the time of the first offence. The offences, committed between July 2011 and March 2012 at the boy's family home in South West Ireland, included four counts of oral rape and four of sexual assault. The man, who has 57 prior convictions but no previous sexual offences, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court. He had gained access to the boy's home by befriending the boy's older brother, providing alcohol, cigarettes and clothing, and later moving into the house.
