Attempted murder accused told gardai he "didn't care" if daughter was alive or dead
Summary
Tomas Gajowniczek, 37, of The Ice Rink Apartments, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of his partner, Alicja Kalinowska, 30, on 16 June 2016. He also pleaded not guilty to causing serious harm to her on the same date. Garda Peter Mullins arrested him in the car park of Kevin St Garda Station after reports of an assault. During the arrest, Gajowniczek told the Garda that he did not care whether his two‑year‑old daughter was alive or dead. He also asked how Alicja would fare. After the assault, Alicja was treated for a fractured nose and injuries to her eyes, limbs and torso. Gajowniczek had been previously arrested under the Mental Health Act after a separate incident involving his partner and their daughter. The trial is proceeding before Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury of twelve.
