Man accused of raping woman he drove home from night out

Summary

A 46‑year‑old man was accused of oral rape in Galway on the night of 5 November 2015. The complainant, a 20‑year‑old woman, said she was given a lift home after a night out and was taken into the front passenger seat of the van. She claimed that while the van was moving she woke to find the man thrusting his penis into her mouth. She pushed him off, screamed, and fled to a nearby house where she rang the doorbell and told the occupants what had happened. The occupants called the Gardaí. The complainant described herself as distressed, having had several drinks earlier, and denied any consensual contact or prior interaction with the accused. The case is before Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and a jury. The accused has pleaded not guilty to the charge of oral rape.
