7.5-year sentence for man who raped three girls fostered by parents

Summary

In a Central Criminal Court trial, a 29‑year‑old Galway man was sentenced to seven and a half years' imprisonment for the weekly rape of his foster sister over a decade. He was also convicted of raping two other foster girls aged six to ten, with the rapes occurring in a hut by the family home and in other locations such as a field and the parents' room. The court heard that the accused asked the first victim to "do that thing for me" and forced her to hold a pornography magazine and clean herself with a dock leaf after an assault. The second victim, aged 11 when she reported the abuse in 2007, had been denied prosecution because the first victim denied it.
