Summary

A Polish roofer, Slawomir Gierlowski, aged 33, was found guilty by a jury of carrying out three random violent sexual attacks on women in Dublin between 2011 and 2016. The first attack occurred on 11 September 2011, when he dragged a woman to the ground, sexually assaulted her and punched her repeatedly. The second, on 3 September 2015, involved a leather belt and duct tape, followed by sexual assault. The third, on 16 May 2016, took place in daylight on Knockmeenagh Lane; Gierlowski, armed with a hunting knife, pulled a woman backwards, threatened to slit her throat, and cut tendons in three fingers when she grabbed the blade. DNA evidence linked all three incidents to Gierlowski, who had been in custody since his arrest in June 2016. The trial, held at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, concluded with unanimous guilty verdicts for all three offences, and he remains remanded for sentencing.
