Jury deliberating in trial of man accused of violent sex attacks

Summary

A jury has begun deliberating in the trial of Slawomir Gierlowski, a 33‑year‑old man from Drimnagh, Dublin, who is accused of carrying out violent sexual attacks on women in Dublin. Gierlowski denies all nine charges, which include false imprisonment, sexual assault and assault. He denies attacking and sexually assaulting women on dates in 2011 and 2015 at locations around Clondalkin in south Dublin, and also denies attacking a woman with a knife in 2016. One woman testified that on 16 May 2016 a man armed with a hunting knife attacked her on Knockmeenagh Lane, and she grabbed the blade to stop the attack, causing the knife to cut tendons in three of her fingers. Another woman said that on 3 September 2015 a man put a leather belt around her neck, knocked her to the ground, wrapped duct tape around her face and hands and sexually assaulted her.
